Why Whereis® maps are spot on6
With our dedicated team of self-confessed map geeks continuously working to get our maps just right, you can trust Whereis® to point you in the right direction.
Here are just a few good reasons we're so confident about our digital map products.
Content7
All our Australian maps are derived from the UBD®, Australia's leading street directory. We also source more than 500,000 points of interest (soon to be 600,000 in the next data release) across 82 categories from the Yellow™ and White Pages® directories, the Citysearch® site, and other third-party suppliers, to make our data the most comprehensive in Australia. Some of the points of interest you can search for include:
| Accommodation | Cinemas | Parking | Red light & speed cameras |
| Airports | Emergency services | Petrol stations | Restaurants |
| ATMs | Golf courses | Public information | School zones |
These all have map references (latitude/longitude coordinates) and, where appropriate, include contact details.
Accuracy8
Our data is continually being updated.
Each year, our research team spends more than 15,000 hours checking out changes in the Australian Road network and driving over more than 320,000 kilometres of roads to maintain the accuracy of our database. That's some road trip.
But all the flat tyres and roadhouse meals are worth it in the end, because it means our maps keep pace as our lives change. In fact, updates appear automatically every six weeks on Whereis.com, Whereis® Navigator and Whereis® Mobile. For other Whereis® products, these are consolidated with the release of new map updates, which occur one to three times a year (depending on the product).
Customer-reported map errors are also investigated within these cycles. In fact, we rely on your feedback to make Whereis® even better, so feel free to report a map error.
Coverage
Whereis® map data covers almost all of Australia and more than 1,000,000km of road – it's a mighty big country.
Whereis® Maps for New Zealand
Whereis® Maps is New Zealand’s premium digital maps database used by the majority of in-car GPS satellite navigation systems and numerous portable GPS satellite navigation systems.
The database is an accurate commercial reproduction of the current New Zealand street network, enabling turn-by-turn navigation of most roads, and is loaded with heaps of information about points of interest as well.
Whereis® Maps incorporate Terralink™ data – the same data used in New Zealand’s first response emergency services.

8 Every effort is made to (a) ensure our maps reflect the changes in the road network and (b) to address map errors in the regular map update program.
However, at any point in time Whereis® cannot guarantee that (a) our digital maps are a 100% reflection of the Australian road network, or (b) that we will be
able to address map error requests within consecutive map update releases.
